Technology: Questions and Support
How Does it Work?
Our online classes are much like a regular class. Using Adobeconnect web-conferencing software, students attend classes live with their classmates and instructors. Like a regular class, students are able to ask questions of their professors and interact with one another. Unlike many online programs, the ILT Academy and Christ School of Theology do not offer "canned" courses. Students write papers, prepare sermons, and receive feedback from instructors who are experts in their field.
What do I need?
All students taking online classes will need the following:
- A computer under three years old. Your computer needs to be sufficiently powerful to handle live videoconferencing. As long as you are not using a netbook or an older machine, you should be fine. Both PCs and Macs work with the Institute of Lutheran Theology's programming.
- A computer audio headset with microphone. These are now widely available at almost all stores that sell electronics and computer equipment.
- A webcam. We recommend the Logitech 9000, but others can work too. Many computers come with webcams built in, but you may wish to purchase an external camera anyway, since they typically provide sharper, better pictures.
- A high-speed internet connection. We strongly recommend a cable modem, but DSL lines also work. Avoid old-fashioned dial-up modems (56k or lower) and wi-fi.
Some Specific Help Info:
- If you are a new student/faculty, or are having trouble setting up your audio and video, or just need a refresher, check out our short demo video (the audio is soft so you will need to up your volume). Additional video in case you have audio/video difficulty (again, soft audio here).
- Faculty needing faculty-level help can also check our faculty technology page.
