No gift is too small. All gifts are deeply appreciated and all are doubled! God bless each of you as you prayerfully consider this request.

Dr. Dennis Bielfeldt to Teach Master of Theology Course in the Spring

This Spring, the Master of Theology course On the Nature of Doctrinal Expressions will be taught by Dr. Dennis Bielfeldt.  Fifty years ago William Cantwell Smith claimed that the theologian working out his/her views unaware of the views Dr. Dennis Bielfeldtof equally intelligent theologians from other religious traditions is as out-of-date as a one who is unaware of the fact that the earth is a “minor planet in a galaxy that is vast only by terrestrial standards.” When one confronts the views of the other religious traditions, however, one must deal with semantics, with the question of the meaning and truth of theological statements of other traditions and one’s own. Beginning with a close reading of George Lindbeck’s Nature of Doctrine, and using the resources of HST 350: Theology and the World Religions, this course explores and evaluates various contemporary proposals for understanding how theological statements can be evaluated both as meaningful and true within the complex contemporary situation. Special attention is placed on the contemporary Lutheran theological context.

Dr. Dennis Bielfeldt is the Vice-President of Academic Affairs at the Institute of Theology and Professor of Theology, as well as Emeritus Professor of Philosophy and Religion at South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD.

Become a Designated Teaching Center

The Institute of Lutheran Theology invites congregations to become Designated Teaching Centers (DTCs). By entering into a covenant with ILT, a congregation that becomes a DTC provides support for ILT's mission of training pastors and theological educators while having access to special services from ILT, including access to the Word at Work series. Through the DTC program, ILT and its students are grounded in the needs of Lutheran congregations today.
